(WKBW) — Genesee Brewery's Ruby Red Kolsch is a fan favorite and it has announced that Mango Peach Kolsch has been crafted as the "perfect summer match" to Ruby Red. Beer was a booming business in Rochester long before Genesee showed up. In 1857, one of the many breweries landing in the city, Reisky & Sky, opened its own saloon and bowling alley. This was the location that local entrepreneur Mathius Kondolf purchased and renamed Genesee Brewing in 1878. Its bar will serve the brewery's popular Ruby Red Kolsch along with its successor, Tropical Pineapple Kolsch, now in its second year. Another option will be Captain's Mix, a combination of the two.

In 2000, the company was sold to an employee investment group, and the company's name was changed to High Falls Brewing Company.

The first annual Tap It Forward Festival takes place outside the Genesee Brew House, featuring beer from breweries across New York State, live music, food trucks and more. The festival is a celebration of Genesee’s dedication to our community, and takes place on a day when the entire brewery was shut down so employees could volunteer their time on various community projects. The 18th Amendment to the Constitution passed in 1919, and while Genesee was forced to close, Louis Wehle took up a new career as a baker. His business was so successful that he was able to sell it in 1929 for $1.3 million, which he then used to purchase the old Genesee Brewery as well as a neighboring brewery just in time for the repeal of Prohibition. He even hired as many of the former Genesee employees as he could. The original location in Rochester underwent a $50 million revamp in 2017. Curious fans came to watch the tanks on their journey until they reached the brewery. The Kolsch style is traditionally served in a glass called a stange.
Featuring a 20-barrel pilot brewery, a restaurant, bar, museum and gift shop, the Brew House turned a century-old packaging building into a New York beer destination. On September 8, 2012, the $3.9 million Genesee Brew House opened to the public. The 9,200-square-foot former packaging center features interactive exhibits and multimedia presentations that explore Genesee's history, along with a gift shop and a pub-style restaurant. We have 16 taps pouring the freshest beer in Rochester, and a bar handcrafted by Genesee Brewery employees from vintage cedar brewing tanks that were part of the original brewery campus. Our menu features pub style fare including our famous Bavarian pretzels. We have seating in our main dining room located on the second floor, as well as outdoor seating on our second floor patio.

To kick off the summer, Genesee Brew House is transforming its beer garden into a tropical oasis, complete with special décor and menu. In September, 2016 NAB announced on an expansion and redesign project. This is a place where honest people have brewed honest beers for generations. Today, more than 500 employees focus on crafting and bottling quality beers everyday. FIFCO purchases NAB, injecting the company with its Triple Bottom Line philosophy of people, planet, profits.
